The Goalmouth Scramble was established by founders George Bennett, Michael Hurtado and Dan Briard in April 2018. This blog is another platform continued from the previously successful GB Articles, which was rated by Feedspot amongst the Top 100 Football News Websites in 41st place, but was forced to close due to a technical malfunction.

George Bennett founded his first blog named The Final Whistle in October 2014, until deciding to create GB Articles just under two years later in May 2016. The blog was created prior to the 2016 European Championships in France, and was launched in the aim of producing articles during the tournament. However, George decided to begin to increase his team of writers, and came across Michael Hurtado, who was the first writer to join George’s team at GB Articles.

GB Articles enjoyed a successful reign between May 2016 and March 2018, where they accumulated nearly 1,000,000 page views and 30 writers. It was also rated on numerous websites amongst the top list of football blogs in the world and attracted a large number of followers both on Facebook and Twitter.

George, Dan and Michael, all former GB Articles employees, decided to continue their dream of running a high-profile football blog by deciding to launch The Goalmouth Scramble. This blog is aimed at providing in-depth analysis on hotly debated subjects, sentimental articles on club fan-favourites and a unique approach to online blogging.

George Bennett

My name is George Bennett, I’m 20-years-old and one of the main founders of The Goalmouth Scramble. I’ve forever been passionate about football, and first witnessed the beautiful game during the 2006 FIFA World Cup when I was aged just 8. My incessant love for football has never died, but once I quite quickly identified that becoming a professional footballer was far from my reach (when I was around 10), I combined my love for writing with my passion to football to discover the career path of becoming a Sports Journalist.

I’ve studied Sport at both GCSE and A-Level, and also successfully passed English Language at GCSE, but I’ve mainly obtained my expertise via continuous practice from the age of 12. My main influencers are BBC commentator John Motson, German correspondent Raphael Honigstein and both Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson.

I have a vast wealth of experience in blogging, both writing for my previous blogs The Final Whistle and GB Articles, and for other established blogs such as The Football Faithful, Bundesliga Fanatic, Talk Chelsea and EPL Index. My main expertise lie in opinionated articles, player and manager portraits, tactical analysis and football economics, which means I’m able to provide a large range of different types of articles. I’m a follower of the majority of football divisions around the globe, especially the English Premier League, Major League Soccer, German Bundesliga and Spanish La Liga.
